Day 1: An IMBA Epic Day
(bring plenty of water, snacks, and tools & parts)
Start with a hearty breakfast wrap or bowl of oatmeal at the Deer Valley Grocery Café.
Ride, bus, chairlift, shuttle, or drive to the start of your ride at the base of Deer Valley Resort’s Silver Lake area. The Mid-Mountain trail starts here and ends 24.7 miles later at Park City Mountain’s Canyons Village area. This singletrack trail is rated double blue square (same ratings as ski runs) and crosses sections of rock gardens, evergreen forests, and two ski resorts. The International Mountain Biking Association named this one of their “Epic Rides” and the designation is well deserved.
Once at the bottom at Canyons Village, grab a beer or cold beverage and a bite (you deserve it). And, if you time it right, a free outdoor concert. From here, you’ll need to bus or ride back to town.
Day 2: IMBA Epic Day Two
Start at the Kimball Junction area with a coffee or smoothie and a baked good or panini from one of the local coffee shops like Park City Coffee Roaster or Hugo Coffee Shop.
From here, venture your way to the Glenwild trailhead. The Flying Dog Trail connects off this one and is fairly well marked. The 11.4-mile climb is long and steady through open sagebrush and aspen groves. Enjoy the breathtaking views of the surrounding area, including the mountain resorts and the Utah Olympic Park. The 5-mile descent is fun and fast with a few switchbacks at the top.
Afterward, grab lunch from Red Rock Brewery and enjoy some local artisanal beer on the outside patio. Choose from a variety of different burgers or sandwiches.
If you decide to ride again, head across the street (Hwy 224) ride or drive up to the Utah Olympic Park and Alf Engen Ski Museum. There is a nice directional 5.9-mile loop from there – Yeti’s to Moose Puddle. And, afterward, explore the Alf Engen Ski Museum and the Utah Olympic Park. Complete your mountain bike vacation with a bobsled ride or an extreme tubing adventure!
